PDDBM will host a Pre-Juneteenth Celebration to commemorate the nineteenth day of June in 1865, when slaves in Galveston, Texas, learned they were free. Juneteenth is the first generally recognized remembrance observing the end of slavery in the United States.

About the event

PDDBM will host a Pre-Juneteenth Celebration to commemorate the nineteenth day of June in 1865, when slaves in Galveston, Texas, learned they were free. Juneteenth is the first generally recognized remembrance observing the end of slavery in the United States. This celebration is regarded as the oldest African-American holiday in the nation. In 2021, President Joe Biden declared Juneteenth as a federal holiday.
